Sugarbush Soaring Rides & Instruction

Sugarbush Soaring is offering the following soaring products during the 2006 season.

Rides

The 20 Minute Glider Ride

Enjoy a pleasant scenic tour of our Valley. You may soar over the ridges at tree top level, or enjoy an early morning view of the golf course, mountains and villages of the Valley.

The 30 Minute Glider Ride

All the thrills and beauty of the Mad River Valley ride plus more time to enjoy it and, if you wish, your pilot will be happy to demonstrate the gentle maneuvers of the hawks that climb and play over our mountains.

To all our ride customers: Soaring is a "natural" sport, taking its cues from the weather. We do assure you a memorable and safe ride, but cannot always guarantee the duration of the flight.

Introductory Glider Lesson

If you have always wanted to learn to fly, this is the opportunity for you to sit down with an instructor and learn the basics, then take your first soaring lesson. You will be at the controls of a two place sailplane together with an FAA certified instructor. You should expect to spend about an hour including ground and in flight instruction.

Sugarbush Soaring also offers lesson packages for 3, 8, or 16 flights.

Glider Rental Policy

Rental and instruction are charged by flight time computed to the nearest minute. A minimum of 20 minutes applies to all rentals. Instruction time is this flight time plus 15 minutes to insure proper pre-flight preparation, planning, and discussion with the student. The billed instructional time (based on flight time) covers post-flight review with your instructor. Using this formula a minimum instruction time of 30 minutes per flight applies.

Rope Breaks & Pattern Tows for Gliders

During training, preparation for emergencies can require practice rope breaks. Pattern tows may be necessary for to sharpen take-off and landing skills.

Glider Field Checks

Visiting pilots wishing to rent sailplanes from Sugarbush Soaring will be required to complete a field checkout. You will watch our safety video, read our operations manual and fly one or more flights with an instructor. Our feeling is that part of the field check is how the visitor conducts himself or herself in a new environment, be sure and ask questions of the instructor prior to your flight.

Our operations manual and safety video are available at the office. All visiting pilots are encouraged to make use of these resources. There is no charge for viewing the video in our third floor lounge.
