Summer Soaring Camp           June 18-30

Come Fly With Us!!

From June 18-30,  2011, Sugarbush Soaring in Warren, Vermont is hosting a good old fashioned  soaring encampment.

You’re always welcome at Sugarbush, but in June we hope to host some great soaring and  soaring people for YOU to enjoy.  Whether new student or local flyer to  cross country lover, it’s for everyone. But don’t forget your family and friends…it’s a great non-flying vacation spot!

Our country airport, Warren-Sugarbush (0B7) sits in the middle of the wide Mad River Valley, with a 2500 ft. asphalt strip  surrounded by lush green grass. We operate everyday with an instruction staff,  two L-23 Blaniks, an ASK-21, Grob 102 and the required 1-26…plus two Pawnee tow planes.

The 4,000 ft. Green Mountains to the west, and a lower ridge to the east - with fields  up and down the valleys - offer all sorts of soaring possibilities. Mostly thermals in June, but ridge and wave can happen any time. We plan a daily weather briefing, mentors if you’d like some local knowledge and an SSA  instructor/observer if you need one for that badge or distance flight. We also plan some fun local flying events and recognition, so no one is left out! Later this spring, our rates will appear  on the web page and we’re putting together a GPS turn point and suggested task library for those who are interested.

The Airport and Facilities

For the flying  stuff, our airport offers tie downs and 100 LL fuel. There is a “tower” building housing an office with staff, a ground floor deck, WiFi, bathrooms  and a shower. Plus a real airport restaurant! Camp on airport in tents or bring an RV. Close by are more restaurants and fine accommodations. For details see www.madrivervalley.com

So They Don’t Just Fly Gliders!

Sugarbush is located smack in the middle of a  wonderful year round vacation area. Don’t be leery about bringing your family  and friends! Not far away there is a fine selection of eating, shopping,  hiking, (including the famous Long Trail), biking, canoeing, kayaking, a real live local swimming hole, sailing, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream factory and the small cities/big towns of Burlington on Lake Champlain or the smallest state capitol in the U.S. …Montpelier.

Come On Up!

Summer in Vermont, soaring or not, is something special.  And we have a big soaring sky with plenty of room…come on up and enjoy!
